Type 2 Diabetes

Type 2 diabetes occurs when the pancreas produces either too little insulin or when the insulin produced doesn’t work properly (insulin resistance). The end result is that the glucose levels in the bloodstream rise and over time health problems such as heart attacks, strokes, blindness, kidney damage, amputations (particularly of the feet and legs) can occur.

The AUSDRISK is the acronym for the Type 2 Diabetes Risk Assessment Tool that was released in July 2008 as part of an Australian Government, State and Territory health initiative to assess a person's risk of developing Type 2 diabetes within the next five years.
